How to read the Cognizil panel properly
Three details change what this panel means, and all three are in the small print.
The first is the blend. One figure, 15.47 mg, covers 21 ingredients. The order tells you which weighs more than which, and nothing tells you by how much.
The second is the extract marks. Most ingredients carry a caret, defined on the panel as a 20:1 extract equivalent, so one milligram of extract stands in for roughly twenty milligrams of raw plant. African mango carries a different mark for 10:1. The amino acids and the ginseng carry no mark at all, so those are the ingredients themselves.
The third is the daily value dagger. Chromium has a percentage because a Daily Value exists for it. The blend carries a dagger meaning no Daily Value has been established, which is true of every botanical on this list and is not a criticism of the product.
Put together: 7 mcg of a mineral with a real reference point, and a blend of concentrated plant extracts and amino acids whose individual amounts nobody outside the company knows.

What exactly is in Cognizil?
Chromium as chromium picolinate at 7 mcg, which is 20% of the Daily Value, plus a 15.47 mg proprietary blend of 21 herb extracts and amino acids. The other ingredients are water, natural flavors, potassium sorbate, stevia, xylitol and citrus extract.
Why does the label not show how much of each ingredient there is?
Because it uses a proprietary blend. Under 21 CFR 101.36 a blend may print one total weight, here 15.47 mg, with the ingredients listed in order of weight but without individual amounts. It is legal, and it does mean you cannot check the dose.
Is 15.47 mg a small amount?
Yes, measured against published research. Most of the extracts are 20:1 concentrates, so the raw plant equivalent is roughly twenty times larger, but single-herb trials on this list used hundreds of milligrams to several grams a day. We say so in full on the dosage page.
Does it contain alcohol?
No alcohol appears in the other-ingredients line. The base is water. An exact alcohol content was not published to us.
What does it taste like?
Not published. The panel shows natural flavors, citrus extract, stevia and xylitol, so it is sweetened and flavored, but no flavor name was supplied to us.
Is the xylitol a problem?
